Tragedy struck as a patrol boat belonging to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) collided with the canoe “Adesa Na Ohetsui,” carrying 12 fishermen.
The fishermen were reportedly engaged in a Homowo ritual fishing.
Conflicting reports emerged, with some suggesting that the fishermen defied the closed fishing season, which was supposed to end on July 31, 2023.
According to reports a GPHA patrol team allegedly drove the fishermen away from the anchorage.
The collision occurred around 1:30 am at the anchorage, resulting in the tragic deaths of two fishermen identified as Francis Tetteh Larbi, 27 years old, and Samuel Acquaye Allotey, 45 years old, both residents of Tema New Town.
