Senegalese football star Sadio Mane has successfully acquired a majority stake in Boyrges Foot 18, a French club. This investment, confirmed in a Twitter post by Ghanaian sports marketer Jon Boafo, fulfils Mane’s long-standing desire to be involved with a football club.
His close relationship with former Bourges Foot 18 president Cheikh Sylla played a significant role in his decision to invest, as Sylla will retain his position as the club’s president.
This club acquisition is viewed as a platform to facilitate the development of young Senegalese players aspiring to reach the top levels of football.
Reportedly, Mane provided financial support to the club for player recruitment during the previous summer transfer window.
Situated in central France, approximately 250 kilometres from Paris, Bourges Foot 18 has not previously competed in a league higher than the French second division.
Currently, the club holds the second position in Group B of the Championnat National.
Sadio Mane, celebrated for his accomplishments at Liverpool, where he secured six trophies, including the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, is now playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Arabia Pro League.
Since joining the Riyadh-based team in August 2023, Mane has scored six goals in ten games.
