Reports have it that private legal practitioner, Prince Benson Mankotam, has decided to no longer contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primaries.
On January 21, 2023, Mr Mankotam announced his intention to contest for the Senya East seat.
But in a Facebook post on February 24, 2023, he wrote “I wish to communicate officially to my Constituents, Elders, Confidants, Colleagues, and the whole nation that I will not pick up the nomination form to contest this coming election.”
According to him, the decision was made after considering several factors post the declaration of intent.
“This withdrawal is in no way a retreat from my values and beliefs. However, our forefathers have said that whilst farming, if the farmer encounters what is bigger than the farm, he sells the barn. I have decided to focus on helping the NDC to reclaim power in 2024 by re-energizing, and Rebuilding the base of the party. I am a mature eagle and so I have no scintilla of doubt that my feathers will ever remain pure,” he added.
He earlier decide to contest to change the face of the constituency. About a month ago, I registered my displeasure about the growth and development of my beloved Constituency, Sunyani East, and bitterly complained about how the NPP leadership has failed the Constituency.
“Considering my leadership capabilities and the calls of well-meaning constituents, I humbly declared my intention to contest in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Primaries to lead the party in the Constituency to clinch the seat from the incompetent NPP after seven (7) unsuccessful attempts.”
Despite withdrawing from the contest, he noted that “the right choice is to send the elephant back to the bush.”
