Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, aged 32, has been excluded from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla due to a recurring hamstring injury he sustained during the team’s season opener.
The Belgian midfielder had to exit the field in the 36th minute of Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Burnley on Friday.
This injury follows his previous hamstring issue during the Champions League final win in June, and Pep Guardiola, the manager, has confirmed it’s a recurrence of the same ailment.
“It’s the hamstring again, same position. I don’t know (how long he will be out), it depends on the magnitude of the injury but it will be a few weeks,” Guardiola said after the game at Burnley.
Guardiola has announced a roster of 22 players for the upcoming UEFA Super Cup match scheduled for Wednesday in Athens.
The match features the victors of the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League.
