Chelsea is grappling with offensive challenges, and despite having spent over £1 billion in three consecutive transfer windows, it is still eyeing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Consequently, it comes as no surprise that they are linked to further attacking acquisitions.
According to the Evening Standard, the top target on their list is Brentford striker Ivan Toney, although there are some complexities involved.
Toney, aged 27, is presently serving an eight-month suspension due to being found guilty by the English Football Association (FA) of 262 breaches of FA regulations related to betting spanning from February 2017 to January 2021.
This suspension is set to conclude on January 16 next year, at which point the England international will be eligible to resume his playing career.
Toney had an impressive track record, scoring 20 goals in 33 league appearances last season, in addition to the 12 goals he netted during Brentford’s inaugural Premier League campaign in 2021-22.
He is under contract with Brentford until 2025.
It is rumoured that an £80 million bid could facilitate a deal.
