Popular Kumawood actor and musician Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin has engaged in a heated exchange with Ghanaian blogger and YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon regarding the reception of Lilwin’s latest movie project, “A Country Called Ghana.”
The altercation began when Kwadwo Sheldon, on his show, criticised the movie, referring to it as “trash,” much to the dismay of Lilwin.
In a self-recorded video shared on Ghpage.com, Lilwin expressed disappointment in Kwadwo Sheldon’s comments, labelling him as someone who lacks appreciation for the artistry involved in the production.
Lilwin further defended his work, emphasising the challenges faced in Ghana’s film industry compared to Hollywood’s resources, stating,
“You can’t compare movies made in America to what we do here in Ghana. They shoot movies in a studio in America while we shoot at locations and mostly village settings”, Lilwin angrily said.
The actor/musician also highlighted positive feedback he received from high-profile figures such as ministers and members of parliament, contrasting them with what he perceived as unwarranted criticism from Kwadwo Sheldon.
He went on to add “I’ve had MPs and Ministers encouraging me that we can do better with time but these people sit there and trash-talk my efforts. You’re a villager if you speak against the effort I have put into the work”.
The clash underscores ongoing debates about the quality and standards of Ghanaian cinema, with Lilwin standing firm in his defense of local filmmaking despite external scrutiny.
