This week, a 12-year-old girl lost her life after gunfire entered her Florida home.

Police in Lake City, Florida reported that on Thursday night, they discovered the girl suffering from a gunshot wound.

EMS and police personnel provided first aid, however the girl died as a result of her wounds. She was reportedly on a couch inside the house when shots were fired, according to the police.

No declaration has been made by the police regarding any arrests made in relation to the shooting. They’re asking the public to share any information they have about the person responsible for the shooting.

Columbia County Schools said on Friday that losing a young life is a really hard and sad feeling that not only affects the family but also the whole school community.

Counseling help will be given to students to give them advice and emotional support because they are sad about this very sad thing that happened. We will keep giving information and help to the school community as we go through this sad event together,” the school district said.

This latest shooting shows that gun violence is still hurting children and families everywhere in the country.

This year, over 4,000 kids and teens were shot, according to information from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA). In 2022, a minimum of 6,170 kids and teens were shot, as reported by GVA.

A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that in 2021, more children and teenagers died from guns than from car accidents, drug overdoses,or cancer.

Dr[Doctor’sName] said that there is a growing number of children involved in gun violence in hospitals and our communities. Chethan Sathya is a doctor who helps children with serious injuries at a hospital called North well Health in New York.
