Ghanaian actor and skit maker Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, better known as Dr Likee, recently shared how he received his first YouTube payout with the help of fellow YouTuber Wode Maya.
During an interview with Emelia Brobbey, Dr Likee revealed that his first YouTube video earned him a remarkable $20,000, which is approximately GH¢304,000.
Dr Likee recounted how Wode Maya sent him a document via WhatsApp and instructed him to take it to the bank.
Without fully understanding its contents, he was taken aback when a bank employee handed him $20,000 in cash. Initially suspicious and confused, Dr Likee realized the substantial amount was genuine.
Filled with gratitude, he called Wode Maya to thank him.
Maya encouraged him to ignore negative feedback and continue creating skits, assuring him of the financial rewards. This experience highlights the crucial role Wode Maya played in helping Dr Likee leverage social media to boost his career.
“I was shocked at first because I didn’t know why he had given me the money, I even thought it was a trap. By the time I got home and counted the money, it was in the region of $20,000,” he narrated.
“That was when I called Wode Maya to thank him. He advised me not to listen to messages from people discouraging me and to focus on making skits, that if I do it well, it will be profitable for me,” he said.
