Ghanaian Highlife artist Bisa Kdei recently opened up about his discontent with religion and his decision to stop attending church services.
In an interview with Accra’s Hitz FM on September 2, 2024, Bisa Kdei explained that his dissatisfaction stems from the way churches are currently operating, especially concerning their use of social media.
He expressed frustration over how some churches seem to prioritize self-promotion over genuine spiritual growth.
Instead of promoting God, people are promoting themselves, and that bothers me a lot.
“People suffer on the streets; people suffer in churches; they pay their tithes; they pay offerings; and then later on they’ll be suffering. They will come to your DMs and say this and that while you see a pastor driving a big car, living in a big mansion, and all that. It’s a whole lot for me,” he added.
He noted that many people continue to face hardships despite their financial contributions to the church, while seeing pastors living in luxury, which he finds troubling.
Despite his grievances, Bisa Kdei affirmed that he still considers himself a Christian and is contemplating returning to church at some point.
“It’s a whole lot; sometimes I say to myself that maybe I will go very soon,” he stated.
He also mentioned that his wife remains a committed Christian, humorously noting her deep faith.
He said, “My wife is a full believer. It’s almost as though she was there when Jesus Christ was born.”
