A senior member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, has criticized Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for mishandling Ghana’s economy.
In a media address on June 26, 2024, Mr Adongo openly questioned Dr. Bawumia’s absence from crucial economic discussions.
He accused Dr. Bawumia of sidestepping significant economic challenges and labeled him a “Yahoo champion” for focusing on digitalization rather than economic strategies.
“Why has Dr. Bawumia run away from the economy? If you are a braggart and an empty economist, our economy will give you a better beating,” the lawmaker said.
“After Dr. Bawumia realized that the punches coming from the economy are not small ones, we have all seen that he is a Yahoo champion all over the place,” he added.
Mr Adongo underscored Dr. Bawumia’s extensive background, including over 15 years of studying economics, earning a Ph.D., and working with institutions like the African Development Bank and the Bank of Ghana.
He expressed disappointment in Dr. Bawumia’s performance in managing the economy, claiming that the NPP flagbearer has shifted his focus to areas beyond his expertise.
“You studied economics for over 15 years, became a Ph.D., worked with the African Development Bank, worked at the Bank of Ghana, and all of that. And when we gave you the economy, you couldn’t manage it,” Adongo stressed.
“Now, the things you’re championing, you didn’t even learn. You just went and opened the computer on the Internet and saw something they called digitalization. You say we should believe you that you can do that one,” the MP concluded.
