Ghanaian actor LilWin was arrested on Monday in connection with an accident that resulted in the death of a young boy.

The family of the three-year-old victim, who died in an accident involving popular actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin, have asserted that they will not be intimidated in their pursuit of justice.

In an interview on Angel FM, a family member emphasized their determination not to be underestimated, highlighting that the victim’s family is not impoverished.

“He thinks he is dealing with a bunch of poor people… we have taken this matter very seriously. Some comments by his Public Relations Officer (PRO) led a presenter to warn me against being bribed, and I told him that anyone familiar with our family in Kumasi knows we are neither destitute nor hungry.

“The Nyarko Towers where we live is just a modest place we rent in town; we go home on weekends,” said the deceased boy’s uncle.

“So if they think they can bully us, they should think again,” he added.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, LilWin was granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court in Kumasi following his arrest by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command shortly after his release from the hospital.

The arrest stems from a fatal accident in which the vehicle LilWin was driving collided with another, leading to the death of the three-year-old boy.

The bereaved family has been outspoken in their demand for justice. The police explained that the delay in LilWin’s arrest was due to his medical condition.

The actor is currently under investigation and faces charges of dangerous driving and causing harm through negligence.

Despite the delay due to LilWin’s health, his lawyer, Margaret Adjei-Twum, argued for bail, citing his injuries, which included internal bleeding, and emphasized the necessity of bail for him to continue receiving medical treatment, as reported by citinewsroom.com.

Adjei-Twum assured the court that her client’s prominence in Ghana and his willingness to face legal proceedings eliminated any risk of flight.

The defense also expressed concerns about the police rushing the case to court before LilWin had fully recovered.

The case has been adjourned to June 27, 2024.

Background

LilWin was reportedly driving at high speed a few weeks ago when he collided with the vehicle carrying little Nana Yaw and his father, Jacob Kofi Ampomah.

Both Nana Yaw and his father were initially taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where the boy succumbed to his injuries.
