Vice President and the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted assertions suggesting that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had governed better than the current administration.
Speaking at a recent address at an event organized by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Dr Bawumia vehemently defended the NPP’s performance, asserting that the government had surpassed the NDC’s achievements in every sector of the economy, a sentiment echoed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).
“At the State of the Nation yesterday, as I listened to him (President Akufo-Addo), it was very clear that our government has outperformed the NDC government in every sector. I mean every single sector. I can’t see one sector where they have outperformed us, but every single sector. Whether you are talking about jobs, whether you are talking about roads, whether you are talking about hospitals, whether you are talking about schools, or digitalization, across every sector,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Expressing disbelief at comparisons drawn between the NPP and NDC governments, Dr. Bawumia likened the scenario to a contest where one party excels in every subject, yet the opposition insists they are superior.
He emphasized, “Meanwhile, they are trying to convince the public that they are better than you. What sort of mathematics is that? I mean, really, you score 70%, they score 30% and they are trying to say their 30% is better than you. It doesn’t make sense. So, in terms of the record, our record is superior.”
President Akufo-Addo’s SONA, delivered on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, emphasized the government’s accountability for the nation’s economic state and highlighted the threat of terrorism within the West African sub-region. The president also underscored his administration’s achievements, asserting that their tenure had surpassed the NDC’s eight years in office.
