The newly elected Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, has highlighted the necessity of reconnecting with dissatisfied New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in anticipation of the upcoming 2024 elections.
Boateng clinched victory in the Ejisu by-election with 27,782 votes, constituting 55.8% of the total votes cast.
His closest rival, Independent Candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, garnered 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the overall votes.
This by-election followed the passing of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, the former MP and Deputy Finance Minister, on March 7, 2024.
In his acceptance speech, Boateng stressed the imperative of reengaging with all party supporters who have departed, aiming to disrupt the established 8-year power cycle.
“Our responsibility is to reconnect with those who may have strayed,” Boateng affirmed. “This is a common occurrence in democratic party systems, especially post-elections. We must reach out, engage, and find common ground for the benefit of our party.”
He expressed gratitude to his supporters and party leadership, emphasising the pivotal role of inclusivity and dialogue in party building.
The NPP has already initiated reconciliation committees at the regional levels as part of this effort.
