Former Ejisu Member of Parliament, Kwame Owusu Aduomi, has sounded a word of caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the Ejisu by-election slated for April 30, 2024.

There are reports that the ruling party seeks to engage in electoral malpractice in order to reclaim the Ejisu seat.

But President Akufo-Addo has strongly refuted accusations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intends to manipulate the upcoming Ejisu by-election. Addressing voters, he urged them to disregard such claims made by the Independent Parliamentary Candidate, Kwame Owusu Aduomi.

Nonetheless, while addressing the media, Kwame Owusu Aduomi noted that the Ejisu electorates are willing to protect their votes from any individual or group that seeks to undermine their rights.

“Anyone who tries to manipulate the elections or brings thugs to cause violence, shall not succeed. It will not happen here. Anyone who tries that will also face the consequences.

“Here is a town belonging to Yaa Asantewaa. So we are not afraid of blood,” he said.

He also addressed claims by the NPP suggesting that he now sides with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his quest to win the by-election.

In his final campaign rally before the Ejisu by-election on April 30, flagbearer for the NPP, Dr Bawumia warned against splitting votes among independent candidates, suggesting that such actions could unintentionally benefit the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama.

“The NPP government has improved the lives and the people of Ejisu than the NDC. Nothing really worked during the NDC era…MPs don’t sponsor projects; they lobby for projects from the government in power…In parliament, the NPP has 138 including the independent candidate while NDC has 137. And so, a vote for an independent means handing over power to NDC and John Mahama.

“And so that is why the NDC did not fill a candidate for this by-election, they are sponsoring the independent candidate”, he remarked. Let’s all come out in our numbers on election day and vote massively for Lawyer Kwabena Boateng to continue the late John Kumah’s work”, he said.

Reacting to this comment while engaging the media, Kwame Owusu Aduomi noted that should the NDC support him, it could only mean they are impressed by the initiatives he took while serving as a legislator.

Despite indicating that he is not an NDC member, he noted that it is none of the ruling party’s business should he decide to join the opposition party.

“Living here with you all, can you say I am not an NPP member? But they say I am an NDC member. If NDC likes me, it could be because of my good work when I was an MP. They all benefited from it. So if NDC likes me, that is it but that does not mean I am an NDC,” he said.

“Even if I am an NDC member, I like it. It doesn’t concern you.”

Ahead of the by-election to fill the seat left vacant by the late John Kumah, political messaging has intensified as the governing party presents Kwabena Boateng as its candidate.

Mr. Boateng will compete against five other candidates, including Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who parted ways with the governing party to run independently in the upcoming by-election.
