Following Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s defeat to Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, April 14, 2024, an unhappy fan sought an audience with the team’s players and officials.
The match, held at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu, ended in a 2-0 loss for Asante Kotoko, pushing Dreams FC to 14th place on the league table.
This defeat compounds the challenges faced by coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who is under mounting pressure amid Kotoko’s dismal seven-match winless streak.
After the loss to Dreams FC, an incensed fan approached police officers present, requesting permission to speak with the players.
Following a brief discussion, during which he assured the police of peaceful intentions, he was granted access to the team’s bus. However, he could only address the players and officials from outside the bus.
In a respectful manner devoid of abusive language, the fan vented his frustrations and urged the players to depart the club if they lacked commitment.
In a related development, former Asante Kotoko coach Isaac Adade Opeele Boateng advised Dr. Ogum to resign if he cannot reverse the team’s winless streak.
Opeele emphasized that resigning would be a dignified choice for Ogum, as prolonging his tenure could lead to further disappointment.
“If Coach Ogum knows he can’t turn things around, he should show respect to Kotoko fans and bow out. This disgrace is unprecedented in our history.
“Coach Ogum who won the league has now been reduced to shreds. Coaching Kotoko is not about your prowess but a good management set-up. The best decision I ever made in my life was to step down at Kotoko. This is the kind of disgrace they nearly did to destroy my image. Step down Ogum!”
Owing to their poor run of form, Kotoko who finished the first round in second place are now 12th with 33 points from 26 matches.
