The newly commissioned Ho Sports Stadium, which opened in 2023, is now in a troubling condition, raising questions about its upkeep.
Sports journalist Saddick Adams shared a video on X showing the pitch overrun with weeds, nearly obscuring most of the field. The stadium also has several removed or damaged seats, contributing to a neglected and rundown appearance.
The stadium’s roofing and other structural elements appear fragile, making it unsafe for hosting events.
This deterioration has led to concerns about the level of care provided by the government and sports authorities since the stadium’s inauguration.
Previously, the Ho Sports Stadium was the venue for the 2023 Independence Day celebrations.
In response to the video’s revelations, Saddick Adams criticized local officials for allowing the stadium to fall into disrepair despite the substantial investment made in the project.
“Ho Sports stadium today. It was completed in March 2023 and hosted Independence Day celebrations. If you’re a DCE or MCE and they build this in your community and you allow it to rot to this state, you should be held responsible,” he wrote on X.
Maintaining stadiums in the country has been a major issue, drawing criticism from both footballers and fans directed at the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
