Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently visited veteran gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, who is currently facing significant health challenges. This visit was part of off-schedule engagements by the Vice President, who has been touring key NPP areas for the past three days.
During this visit, NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (commonly known as Chairman Wontumi), stated that the Vice President’s visit aimed to provide support and encouragement to the ailing musician. Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢100,000 to assist with Yaw Sarpong’s medical expenses.
A full video of the Vice President and his team’s visit, which was shared by Kofi TV, shows their interactions at Yaw Sarpong’s residence before continuing their campaign activities. The Vice President was accompanied by several notable individuals, including NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim and gospel artist Nicholas Omane Acheampong.
Yaw Sarpong has been battling a stroke, as confirmed by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis. He revealed to GhanaWeb that the “Oko yi” hitmaker has been ill for over a year and has been bedridden since last year. Ashis expressed hope for Yaw Sarpong’s recovery in the coming months and appealed for prayers and support from those impacted by his music.
Prior to the manager’s confirmation, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwa had already informed the public about Yaw Sarpong’s condition. Diana Asamoah disclosed on her Angel FM show on February 26, 2024, that Yaw Sarpong was battling a mild stroke. This followed Maame Tiwa’s emotional video pleading for divine healing for Yaw Sarpong.
