A retired pastor from the New Covenant Apostolic Church, Pastor Michael Ahiago, is reported to have taken his own life by hanging.
The deceased, believed to be in his early 70s and a father of five, was found hanging from a mango tree in front of his home early Wednesday morning at around 5:30 a.m.
The widow, Mrs. Beatrice Ahiago, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that her husband left the house unnoticed while she was preparing porridge for sale.
She mentioned that he was at home with the family the night before and showed no signs of depression.
“I got up this dawn to prepare my porridge for sale without having any knowledge of my husband’s departure from home until we were told of the incident,” she said.
Apostle Paul Gidigasu, General Secretary of Apostolic Vision Church International, who arrived at the scene, noted that Ahiago was an active member of the Akatsi Senior Ministers Association until his death.
However, he was unable to determine the cause of the tragic event, adding: “We are encouraging the widow and the family to be strong in the Lord in these difficult times.”
When the GNA visited the scene, many residents, including church members, chiefs, and pastors, had gathered at the deceased’s home to witness the aftermath of the incident.
