Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are set for a rematch on December 21, according to the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
Usyk defeated Fury by split decision on May 18, becoming the first undisputed champion of the four-belt era.
While the rematch was initially planned for October, Turki Alalshikh announced that the date has been postponed to December.
“The world will watch another historical fight again,” Alashikh added on X.
“Our commitment to boxing fans continues. We hope you enjoy it.”
Usyk, who became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, secured Fury’s WBC belt to complement his WBA, WBO, and IBF titles during their fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
The 37-year-old Ukrainian boasts an unblemished professional record, having won all 22 of his fights.
While Alashikh did not specify a venue or location for the rematch, he confirmed that it would occur “during Riyadh Season.”
Riyadh Season is an annual entertainment festival launched in 2019 that has hosted several high-profile boxing events.
The rematch offers Briton Fury, 35, the chance to avenge his first professional defeat in his 16-year career against Usyk.
It’s unlikely that all four belts will be up for grabs in the rematch, as the IBF intends to strip Usyk for not facing its mandatory challenger next.
However, Usyk has requested an “exception” to retain the belt for the rematch.
The IBF informed BBC Sport that their “board of directors” would convene to discuss the request.
