The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has provided laptops to 50 students from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa as part of a four-year scholarship initiative to aid their academic pursuits.
These students, already participants in BOST’s scholarship program, were chosen from various host communities nationwide.
During a ceremony to present the laptops, Deputy Managing Director Joseph Kpemka described the donation as a corporate social responsibility effort to empower students.
“The laptops will facilitate access to information, online research, and academic work,” Kpemka stated.
He reiterated BOST’s dedication to making a positive societal impact by supporting talented but financially disadvantaged students from its host communities.
“By providing these laptops, BOST aims to remove barriers to learning and help these students succeed academically,” he added.
BOST will track the students’ academic performance and post-graduation activities. Mr. Kpemka assured that those who excel in their final exams will be considered for employment opportunities at BOST, depending on available vacancies.
The students are pursuing various degree programs, including petrochemical engineering and other related fields. Besides the laptops, BOST is covering their tuition fees, accommodation, and providing a monthly stipend throughout their studies.
Catherine Biney, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, expressed her gratitude to BOST for its support.
She encouraged the students to appreciate the assistance and excel in their studies as a way of showing their thanks. Biney commended BOST for its role in improving education in Ghana.
Anthony Simmons, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UMaT, praised BOST for the initiative and urged the beneficiaries to achieve success to inspire the company to continue supporting students in host communities.
