UK man charged with theft after police recover 200,0000 Cadbury creme egg stash

Police officers have claimed they have “saved Easter” after recovering a stolen trailer-load of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs

The huge chocolate stash—which also included other varieties and is thought to be worth around £40,000—was taken from a unit in Stafford Park in Telford, Shropshire, on Saturday.

West Mercia Police stopped a vehicle on the M42, before detaining a 32-year-old man on suspicion of theft, Birmingham Live reports.

“West Mercia Police has helped save Easter for Creme Egg fans after almost 200,000 of the chocolate treats were stolen from a unit in Stafford Park in Telford,” a force spokesperson said. “The eggs-travagent theft took place on Saturday 11 February with the chocolate collection box thought to be worth around £40,000. Along with the creme eggs, a number of other chocolate varieties were also stolen. Shortly after the theft a vehicle, presumably purporting to be the Easter bunny, was stopped northbound on the M42 and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft.”

The man, who has been named Joby Pool, faces two counts of theft and a third criminal damage charge after a chain lock was also reportedly broken.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Market Drayton station replied to news the haul had been recovered, telling police “eggcellent work by all involved.”
