Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, aged 23, and Villarreal midfielder Yeremy Pino, aged 20, have been called up to replace the injured Marco Asensio, aged 27, and Dani Olmo, aged 25, as announced by the Spanish federation.
Spain has made changes to their squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Cyprus due to injuries.
During Spain’s dominant 7-1 victory over Georgia on Friday, Paris St. Germain forward Asensio and RB Leipzig midfielder Olmo both left the field in the first half due to physical issues.
Ferran Torres, who last represented Spain at the World Cup in Qatar the previous year, where Spain was eliminated by Morocco in the round of 16, will be making his return.
Torres, with 35 caps, is also included in the Spain squad for the first time under the management of new head coach Luis de la Fuente.
Yeremy Pino, who has made 11 international appearances, notably scored a goal for Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals against Italy.
“Ferran Torres and Yeremy Pino will join the Spanish national team… to prepare for the match against Cyprus at the Estadio de Los Carmenes stadium,” the Royal Spanish Football Federation said in a statement on Saturday.
Spain, the reigning champions of the 2023 UEFA Nations League, currently occupy the second position in Group A with six points from three matches. They trail Scotland, who have played two additional games, by a margin of nine points.
Spain’s upcoming fixture will see them play against Cyprus in Granada on Tuesday.
