Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo recently shared her disappointment with some members of the local film industry after the events at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
In a live video with fellow actress Fella Makafui on November 4, Sarfo spoke candidly about the lack of unity among Ghanaian actors, highlighting her concerns over the industry’s need for unity.
“The Ghana movie industry is full of hypocrites, and I don’t understand. If you talk about this, some people will drag you on social media and start name-calling,” she said.
“This is embarrassing, and it’s about time we stop licking the foot of these people,” she added.
Fella Makafui also shared her disappointment during the live video.
“This is a total disappointment, and we would not lick the feet of anybody. If they like, they should feature us in their movies; they can even take their awards. We are tired of these people,” she added.
Background
The 2024 edition of the AMAA ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria, where several Ghanaian actors, including Abdul Salam Mumuni, Akorfa Edjeani Aseidu, Gloria Sarfo, Julia Apea, and Jackie Appiah, were nominated in prominent categories and invited to attend.
According to Gloria Sarfo, the event organisers failed to communicate effectively, leaving them stranded at Kotoka International Airport. Attempts to reach the organisers for updates reportedly went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Joselyn Dumas served as a host at the event.
