Thomas Tuchel warns Pep says not ‘ over until we are in shower’ ahead of reverse tie

Thomas Tuchel has adopted a combative attitude regarding Bayern Munich’s chances of reaching the Champions League semifinals.

In the opening leg of their Champions League quarterfinal match, Tuchel watched helplessly as Bayern Munich was dismantled by a ruthless Manchester City team.

Before goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland in the second half gave the Citizens a commanding advantage going into the rematch in Munich, Bayern’s resistance was finally broken by a beautiful curling shot from Rodri, according to Eurosport.

Reflecting on the result, Tuchel, who was handling his fourth game since replacing Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern boss, argued his side were unlucky.

“It will not be over until we are in the shower.” The 49-year-old tactician highlighted Rodri’s goal as the catalyst for their misfortune on Tuesday night. “If City gets this sort of goal, it gets really, really difficult,” said the Bayern boss.

“The reaction was great during the first half. In the second half, it was even better. In the period where the goal could give us a huge boost of confidence, the opposite happened.”

Talking points from Bayern’s loss

It was reported that Manchester City versus Bayern Munich was definitely the pick of the quarterfinal ties, and the game did live up to its billing.

With a semifinal spot up for grabs, Pep Guardiola’s charges produced a masterclass performance to keep their search for the Champions League alive.

The overwhelming result shifts the game in favour of Man City ahead of the reverse tie at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
