This is how Ghana lost Kotoko star Robert Eshun – Saddick Adams details

Prominent sports journalist Saddick Adams, known as Sports Obama, has revealed the cause of death of the revered Asante Kotoko icon, Robert Eshun, widely known as Ebo Electric, during his prime.

Saddick Adams reported that Eshun tragically suffered a cardiac arrest while en route to his workplace.

As previously reported by GhanaWeb, Robert Eshun passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, in London, United Kingdom. In response to this sad news, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has issued a statement in which they have offered heartfelt tributes to their former player.

“We are saddened by the news of the passing of our 1990 FA Cup

winner, 1990 CAF Champions League semifinalist and ex-Black Stars skilled winger, Robert Eshun. Our heartfelt condolences to his family” wrote Kotoko on social media.

Eshun, affectionately known as ‘Ebo Electric,’ is fondly remembered for his remarkable goal in the 1990 FA Cup final. His reputation was built on nimble footwork and exceptional soccer skills, which catapulted him to prominence when he joined Asante Kotoko while still a student at T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi.

His extraordinary talent quickly endeared him to football enthusiasts throughout Ghana.

During his tenure at Asante Kotoko, he made a significant impact, contributing numerous goals to the club. One of his most unforgettable moments was his pivotal goal in the 1990 FA Cup final. Additionally, he played a vital role as a member of Kotoko’s squad in the CAF African Cup Championship.

Eshun’s dazzling performances didn’t escape the notice of European clubs, who expressed a strong interest in signing the young sensation after his outstanding performance for Ghana in a U-21 AFCON qualifier tournament held in Egypt.

He subsequently made the move to Europe, where he played for various clubs in Belgium and Turkey, including Turnhout, Tielen, Lommel, and Dessel.

Throughout his active football career, Eshun’s extraordinary dribbling skills consistently left opponents and fans alike in admiration. These exceptional abilities earned him the moniker ‘Ebo Electric’ among local football enthusiasts.
