The revered Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has delivered a solemn warning to those within his kingdom who may harbour discontent and are thus being used as pawns in an alleged scheme to render the kingdom irrelevant.
Speaking candidly, he addressed concerns of envy and division within the Ashanti community during an address.
“We are envied in the Ghana that we live in, some wish we could just be ejected. So, if you are in the kingdom, be careful,” Otumfuo stated, acknowledging the presence of internal discord.
Reflecting on history, he invoked the failed attempts of the colonial powers to subdue the Ashanti people. “Isn’t it amazing, the Whiteman came and tried as much as they could but all of that led to nothing,” he remarked.
Otumfuo drew attention to the historical resistance of the Ashanti people, emphasizing their resilience against foreign forces. “The Whiteman was armed with weapons and ammunition but never got to even sight the Golden Stool,” he asserted, highlighting the strength and tenacity of the Ashanti heritage.
However, the Asantehene expressed his concern over the emergence of internal divisions and ingratitude within the Ashanti community. “But because of ingratitude, Ashantis are now our own enemies, causing our own destruction,” he lamented.
He issued a stern caution to the residents of the Ashanti kingdom, urging them to exercise vigilance and unity. “You all should be very careful because they wish they could drive all of us out of this country,” Otumfuo warned.
