Entertainment critic Sally Mann has urged the government to extend support to Ghanaian dance sensations Afronitaaa and Abigail, following their impressive performance on Britain’s Got Talent.
Afronitaaa, whose real name is Danita Yeboah, along with her talented protégé Abigail Adjiri, wowed audiences on the 17th season of the ITV show and secured third place, bringing pride to their home country Ghana.
Despite their achievement being independent of institutional backing, the duo received recognition from various quarters including Vice-President Dr. Bawumia, the University of Ghana, and former president John Dramani Mahama.
During an interview on Power FM in Accra, Sally Mann emphasized the need for more support for these young dancers. She suggested that they could benefit from sponsorships to further develop their skills and could also represent Ghana on global platforms.
Mann highlighted, “Their success was entirely self-motivated; they received no external support. They took the initiative to participate in Britain’s Got Talent on their own. As a nation, we should do more for them, providing opportunities for growth such as masterclasses in dance.”
She continued, “Considering what these two girls have accomplished for Ghana, especially Abigail, it’s truly remarkable. They deserve our congratulations and support.”
The duo’s impressive journey on Britain’s Got Talent captured hearts globally, showcasing not just their dance prowess but also Abigail’s exceptional ability to perform despite being hearing-impaired. Their success has significantly raised the profile of Ghanaian dance and culture on an international stage.
