The National Communications Authority (NCA) has disclosed that Surfline has shut down its data centre and readies to close down its radio access network.

Acting Director-General of the NCA, Joe Anokye, told the media the company’s decision is likely as a result of its inability to finance its current liabilities from its available cash.

“So, Surfline actually wrote to us that they shut down their data centre. Prior to that, they informed us that they were shutting down their radio access network because of cost.

“But I think it’s a major liquidity issue…and I think it’s been very challenging for them,” he is quoted by Graphiconline to have said.

According to Mr Anokye, his uniform is working on updating the public on the matter in a communiqué yet to be released.

On its website, Surfline, said to be Ghana’s first 4G LTE company informed its customers that it has  experienced a total network downtime in the past few days which has resulted in a service interruption.

“Please be assured that Surfline management is working very hard with all stakeholders to resolve the matter,” the company wrote.

Surfline indicated that affected parties would have their data bundle extended proportionally, once the network is up again.

“Surfline will also ensure that you, as our cherished customers, are compensated for all the inconvenience. We are grateful to you for bearing with us and very much appreciative of your custom,” it added.

Surfline has a number of data packages that include Yolo bundle, San Bra Fie, Big Mood, All Weather Bundles, Pay Weekly plans and Unlimited plans which come with distinct prices.

For the Yolo bundle, one pays GHc4620 for 11 months and gets the 12th month free. It also comes with a free device insurance where one gets an instant device replacement at no cost should the device get damaged within the period.
