Ghanaian television host Amanda Jissih has urged stakeholders in the entertainment industry to unite and support artists facing personal struggles.

Speaking on the United Showbiz show on May 18, 2024, Jissih highlighted the plight of musician Okomfour Kwadee, emphasizing that many entertainers face challenges beyond substance abuse, often overlooked by families and the public.

Jissih noted that organizations like GHAMRO and MUSIGA are overwhelmed and cannot address all cases promptly. She stressed the need for personal connections and financial contributions from individuals within the industry to help artists like Okomfour Kwadee get back on their feet.

“A lot of people are struggling in this industry. If you take a phone and call some people, you will realize many artistes are going through a lot, but their families are watching them.

“You may think they are okay or are out of the country. But they are here with us, going through things.

“If we are waiting for organizations like GHAMRO or MUSIGA, etc., we will be waiting for a long time. Not because they don’t want to, but because there are a lot of people in similar conditions who need help,” she said.

Jissih acknowledged that supporting these artists involves significant expenses, such as securing accommodation and a caretaker, but she remained hopeful that a collective effort could find a solution.

“We, the stakeholders in the entertainment industry, have to join forces in supporting Okomfour Kwadee. We hope that people who know him personally and have money to donate will do so.

“It would be difficult, but we can’t wait for these bodies or institutions. If we are to seek help for him, we have to get him accommodation and a caretaker; all this would require extra costs.

“It’s a big package. But there has to be a way,” she said on the show hosted by MzGee.
Her comments came in response to viral videos showing Okomfour Kwadee in a deteriorated state, prompting public calls for help and speculations about the nature of his troubles.

Jissih’s appeal underscores the broader issue of mental health and support within the entertainment industry, calling for immediate and collective action to aid those in need.
