Ghana head coach Otto Addo has hinted at the possibility of his team playing more aggressive against South Korea if they lose their opening group game against Portugal at the 20222 FIFA World Cup.
Black Stars. who are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.
‘The match against Korea will depend on the results of the first match against Portugal,” the 47-year-old said.
“If we lose, we have to be more aggressive in the South Korean game. The result of Korea’s match against Uruguay is the same.”
On facing all three opponents at the World Cup, he told FIFA, “We’re going up against three strong opponents and we could lose all three games or win all three. It’s up to us and how we adapt to their playing style, how we stop them, how we work together as a team. We need to play intelligent football, exploit our opponents’ weaknesses and bring our own strengths to the fore.”
Ghana secured a 4th FIFA World Cup tournament having participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil after drawing 1-1 against Nigeria in the return leg of the final play-offs at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to seal qualification on the away goals rule.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.
Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.
Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year’s tournament.
Black Stars will take on Switzerland on Thursday in their final preparatory game before jetting to Qatar for the global showpiece.
