Former Black Stars player Charles Taylor has voiced strong criticism of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, accusing him of failing to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
Taylor expressed disappointment in the minister’s inability to maintain various sports complexes, noting that action was only taken after significant public backlash.
The former Kotoko player went as far as to label Mustapha Ussif as the worst sports minister in the nation’s history.
He also contended that the recent efforts to repair deteriorating stadiums will not be enough to convince voters to support the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general elections.
“Six months to elections and they are now coming to fix the stadiums? This will not change our minds about deposing them from government.
He [Mustapha Ussif] is the worst minister who has managed our football. Look at the number of things that have been left to rot.
“The funds they get from FIFA and others they have used them. This minister does not respect footballers; he only regards the Black Stars.
He should be called Minister of Black Stars, not Sports,” he said on Angel TV.
This criticism follows the sports minister’s announcement that the government is taking steps to address the deteriorating state of several sports complexes, including the Essipong Sports Complex, Dormaa Sports Complex, Azumah Nelson, and Ho Sports Complex, after public backlash.
