The Ghanaian midfielder was rested against the Basques, as he is considered a vital part of Los Rojiblancos’ midfield.

His absence from last season’s second leg defeat against Juventus due to suspension was seen as one of the reasons that led to Atletico’s elimination.
Juanfran was used as a left-back instead of Saul Niguez, who had to play in the midfield and Cristiano Ronaldo found the space he needed to produce an extraordinary performance.
Partey is ahead of Marcos Llorente in Diego Simeone’s pecking order, with the latter failing to convince with his performance at the Reale Arena on Saturday.

Morata, meanwhile, has sped up his recovery from a knee sprain he suffered against Leganes and Atletico will need him for a game as important as the one against Juventus.
Simeone expects a lot from the Spanish striker and his connection with Diego Costa up front is essential should Los Rojiblancos want to go far in all three competitions.
