Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has sparked a social media buzz, particularly on Instagram, with a post asking his millions of fans for their thoughts on his new look.
Gyan shared a picture of himself sporting a new haircut that noticeably makes him appear younger than his previous hairstyle, which mostly featured dreadlocks.
He has now opted for a much shorter and cleaner look.
This transformation in Gyan’s appearance has triggered reactions online, with many fans expressing admiration for his new style and encouraging him to maintain it.
At 37 years old, Gyan holds a significant place in Ghanaian and African football history, being the top scorer for the Ghana national team, the Black Stars.
Furthermore, he boasts an impressive record as the African footballer with the most goals in the history of the FIFA World Cup.
After more than two decades of active football, Gyan officially retired from professional play in June 2023, vowing to continue supporting and advocating for opportunities for young talents.
“IT IS TIME… that voice has been clear in my ears, and I have succumbed to it. IT IS TIME. IT IS TIME TO HANG THE JERSEY AND BOOTS IN GLORY as I officially retire from active football. but then again, I am minded by views shared by great businessmen and sporting gurus: “YOU DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVE’… Together with my management, we will continue to encourage and push young talents, as we did recently with the BABYJET U16 AFRICAN TOURNAMENT where 1,200 young players across West Africa exhibited their talents on live TV.
“Again, I will put my experience and knowledge to use in the fields of coaching, football business and scouting. I want to thank my beloved country, Ghana, my family, my colleagues from school, those from Colts and Blackstar from 2002 to date, club mates, coaches and everybody who has played a role in my career as a footballer,” he said.
During his moderately successful club career, Asamoah Gyan represented several teams, including Sunderland, Liberty Professionals, Legon Cities, Al Ain, and Udinese, among others.
He is particularly cherished for his outstanding performances in the 2006 and 2010 World Cup tournaments.
