President of the World Kickboxing and Karate Do Union (WKU) Mr. Klaus Nonnemacher, on Tuesday, paid a productive visit to the office of Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
During their meeting, they engaged in discussions on various important matters aimed at enhancing combat and martial art sports in Ghana.
One of the key areas of focus was to establish collaborations that would facilitate periodic refresher courses for athletes, coaches, and referees.
This initiative aims to improve the skills and knowledge of those involved in these sports, ultimately raising the overall standard of competition in the country.
By facilitating the supply of necessary equipment, the aim is to bolster the development and growth of kickboxing and karate in Ghana.
Mr. Klaus Nonnemacher, who is a German national and is currently in Ghana to organize the African Open Tournament, expressed his admiration for the level of participation and the standard of competition displayed at the tournament, which was held at the Korean Sports Complex in Tema.
It was agreed during the meeting that the African Open Tournament will now become an annual event held in Accra, Ghana.
The National Sports Authority pledged its support for the tournament, recognizing its significance in promoting kickboxing and karate in the region and providing a platform for talented athletes to shine.
Overall, the meeting between Mr. Klaus Nonnemacher and Professor Peter Twumasi emphasized the commitment to developing combat and martial art sports in Ghana, fostering talent, and elevating the nation’s presence in the international sports arena.
Five sports disciplines including Taekwondo, Karate-Do, Judo, Kickboxing, and MMA competed at the event where outstanding athletes were rewarded with medals, trophies and equipment.
Professor Twumasi congratulated Steavano Kojo Tuekpe, President of WKU Ghana for coming up with the idea to support Ghanaian athletes.
He urged other top sportsmen and women to remember their roots and give back to where they come from.
