Osimhen deletes all Napoli related content on his Instagram

Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has taken the step of removing all Napoli-related content from his Instagram account following an incident where the club mocked him on social media.

Osimhen has purged his Instagram profile of any posts or references related to Napoli, including edits to his biography and the removal of any official club-related content.

The controversy arose when Napoli’s official TikTok account ridiculed Osimhen for his missed penalty during a goalless draw against Bologna on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

In this match, Osimhen, who had been nominated for the 2023 FIFA Men’s Best Player of the Year award, failed to convert a critical penalty opportunity in the 72nd minute, with the ball going wide.

Following the game, Napoli’s TikTok account shared a video featuring Osimhen’s penalty protest, accompanied by background laughter. Another viral video circulated online labelled Osimhen as a “coconut.”

These actions by the club have been widely criticised, with many expressing support for Osimhen and suggesting that he should seek a transfer in the upcoming window.

Significantly, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has confirmed their intention to take legal action against Napoli in response to these developments.
