Lionel Messi made an iconic ‘hold my beer’ celebration directed at Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham after a remarkable performance in a match against Atlanta United.
In his first start for Inter Miami, the Argentine forward stole the spotlight, scoring a brace and providing an assist in a stunning 4-0 victory during the Leagues Cup at DRV PNK Stadium.
The 36-year-old opened the scoring in the eighth minute, capitalizing on a through ball from former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets. Although his initial shot hit the woodwork, Messi calmly tapped in the rebound to find the net.
The goal triggered wild excitement among the crowd, and as Messi walked back towards the halfway line amidst the celebration from his Inter Miami teammates, he noticed Beckham applauding his feat.
Playfully, the 2022 World Cup winner responded with a ‘hold my beer’ gesture aimed at the former England international, leaving Beckham with a big smile.
In the 22nd minute, Messi scored his second goal after being set up by Robert Taylor. Demonstrating his prowess as a team player, right before half-time, he provided an exquisite assist to help Taylor score a goal. The Finnish striker added another goal in the second half, securing Inter Miami’s smooth advancement to the next round of the Leagues Cup.
Since arriving in the United States, Messi has been making headlines, having already scored three times in just 58 minutes of play. Fans can look forward to his first MLS outing against Charlotte on August 20.
