“Maintain good character” – Nigeria govt warns Nigerians in South Africa if they win against SA

Nigeria High Commission in South Africa has issued a statement cautioning Nigerians residing in the country to exercise restraint in their celebrations in the event of a victory for the Super Eagles over the Bafana Bafana in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

In the statement, the High Commission urged Nigerians to avoid provoking South Africans should they emerge victorious in their match scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2023.

They advised Nigerians to be mindful of their actions and words, especially in public places where they watch the game.

Additionally, the High Commission emphasised the importance of maintaining a reputation for good behaviour and urged Nigerians to report any instances of provocation to the relevant authorities.

The cautionary statement was deemed necessary due to an apparent online uproar initiated by some South African citizens ahead of the semi-final clash.
