Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is currently under investigation by La Liga following a complaint filed by Getafe.
The accusation claims that Bellingham directed an offensive remark at Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood during Thursday’s match.
In the game, the England international midfielder played a role as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over their city rivals, elevating them to the top of the table.
The alleged comment, in which Bellingham referred to Greenwood as a “rapist,” reportedly occurred after a contentious tackle near the touchline.
Cadena SER reported the incident to La Liga’s delegate after the match, raising the possibility of disciplinary action against Bellingham.
Former La Liga match official Iturralde Gonzalez told Cadena SER of what could happen from here: “You can be sanctioned if you really say that, but if Getafe wants to defend its player, what it can do is take the case to the Competition Committee.
The League will do what it has to do, but they can appear at the Competition Committee with those images and accuse him of what he said.”
Greenwood, who had faced accusations of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control, saw these charges dropped in February 2023.
Currently on a season-long loan at Getafe for the 2023–24 campaign, his parent club, Manchester United, is expected to determine his long-term future in the upcoming summer transfer window.
