Newly appointed assistant coach of the Black Stars, John Paintsil, has initiated legal action against several Ghanaian journalists and media houses, demanding damages totaling GH₵80 million for alleged defamatory remarks made against him.
Among those sued are Patrick Osei Agyemang, known as Countryman Songo, Christopher Nimley, Saddick Adams, and Veronica Commey, along with media outlets including Multimedia Group, Omni Media Limited, and Angel Broadcasting Network, for facilitating the dissemination of the alleged defamatory comments.
Paintsil’s lawsuit stems from accusations that he possesses a fake coaching certificate, which he contends has tarnished his reputation among members of society.
According to legal documents filed by Nobisfield Chambers, Paintsil seeks GH₵20 million in general damages from each media outlet and GH₵5 million from each individual defendant for their defamatory statements.
As part of the legal proceedings, Paintsil requests that all defendants issue an unreserved apology and retract their defamatory statements publicly through the same medium of publication.
The defendants have been given eight days to respond to the summons, either personally or through legal representation. Failure to comply may result in further legal action, including seeking a judgment in default of appearance.
