Inaki Williams awarded African MVP in La Liga

Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams has been honored as the La Liga EA Sports African MVP for the 2023/24 season, recognizing his outstanding performance in Spain’s top-tier football league.

Williams impressed fans by netting 12 goals in 34 league appearances, playing a pivotal role for Athletic Bilbao.

He secured 46 votes, capturing 24% of the total, while his closest rival, Brahim Diaz, received 37 points, and Youssef En-Nesyri of Sevilla FC followed closely with 30 points.

At the award ceremony, Williams emphasized the significance of representing the African continent in La Liga.

“Thank you very much for the acknowledgement. It is an honour to represent all African players in La Liga. My roots in Ghana are as deep as my love for Bilbao and Athletic Club.

I hope to be in contention for this same award next season,” he said.

Inaki Williams’ season was marked by more than just league success; he was instrumental in Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey victory, their first in four decades, and also scored his 100th goal for Bilbao this season.
