Ghanaian international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku revealed that he admired Black Stars captain Andre Ayew during his formative years.
For the Leicester City winger, sharing the field with his childhood hero was a remarkable experience.
Issahaku debuted for the national team in September 2021, contributing to the Black Stars’ 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
In an interview with Leicester City Football Club’s official media, the forward said: “When I was coming up, I looked up to André [Ayew]. I liked how he was playing and how much passion he had for football.
He always gave his all to the team and, at that time, I just loved him. I wanted to be like him, and now I play with him for Ghana.”
“It was so amazing to be on the field with him. It was a great feeling to meet him. The most exciting part was that when I went there, he guided me. He started to give me advice about the game and how to improve.”
Currently on loan at a Championship side from Sporting CP, the Ghanaian has been productive, netting two goals and providing eight assists in English second-tier football.
