 Former GFA boss Alhaji M.N.D Jawula dies

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Lepowura Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula has passed on in the United  States of America at the age of  74 after battling with illness.

Until his demise, he was the Lepowura of the Kujolobito Gate of Lepo-Kpembe in the Northern Region.

He served as the GFA chairman from 1997-2001 when he stepped down from his role for the late Ben Koufie to continue as GFA chairman.

The late Alhaji Jawula died in Nashville -USA on Saturday, 21st January 2023 after an unknown ailment.

During his tenure the Black Starlets, U-17 team placed 2nd and 3rd in the 1997 and 1999 World Cups respectively, while the U-20 side which gave Ghana the likes of Michael Essien, Derek Boateng, John Mensah, John Paintsil placed second to Saviola’s Argentina in 2001.

He was the Chairman of the seven-member Ghana Premier League Management Committee, CAF interclub committee member, and also a board member of his beloved  RTU.

Alhaji Jawula attended the Tamale Secondary School before progressing to the University of  Cape Coast for his first degree in English and Economics.

He worked at the Ministry of  Finance, the Ministry of Health, and several other Ministries before he retired.
