Bruno Fernandes has expressed admiration for his Manchester United teammate David De Gea, stating that the goalkeeper deserved a more fitting farewell.
De Gea recently announced his departure from the club after his contract expired at the end of June.
Fernandes believes that a farewell in front of the fans at Old Trafford would have been a more suitable tribute for De Gea, considering his contributions to the team.
As the club’s third-highest appearance-maker in the Premier League, De Gea’s departure is seen as a significant loss for Manchester United.
Fernandes’ comments highlight the respect and appreciation the players have for De Gea and acknowledge the impact he has had during his time at the club.
The Portuguese international posted on Instagram: “You know what I think about you and how much I will miss you bro.
“You deserved to say goodbye at the stadium with all the fans cheering you for all the beautiful memories.
“You made history at the club and your name will never be forgotten. All the best for what’s coming for you and your family.”
De Gea leaves the club on a high, having won the Premier League Golden Glove last season.
United are reportedly keen to replace him with Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana.
