Albanian police have reportedly arrested Egnatia club officials for further interrogation into the death of Raphael Dwamena.
The police have also reportedly conducted a raid on the offices of the football club.
Dwamena, who had a documented history of heart problems, collapsed on the field and passed away while being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.
There are suspicions that Egnatia may have violated laws by signing the 28-year-old striker despite being aware of his pre-existing medical condition.
The incident has raised concerns among sports doctors and football experts about inadequate medical equipment and lax regulations, which could contribute to tragic events like Dwamena’s death.
This tragedy has prompted discussions on the necessity of improved medical standards and stricter enforcement within the Albanian football community to prevent similar incidents in the future.
