British athletes, staff stuck in Budapest following World Championships

Approximately 40 British athletes and staff find themselves stranded in Budapest after the World Championships due to travel disruptions in the UK.

This contingent, comprising both athletes and support personnel from UK Athletics, had to return to their hotel due to the flight chaos that has affected thousands of travelers since Monday.

The disruption in UK airspace resulted from a widespread failure in air traffic control systems, leading to extensive disruptions and the delay or cancellation of numerous flights.

Certain athletes are currently making arrangements to travel directly from Budapest to Zurich for the Diamond League meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Meanwhile, UK Athletics (UKA) is actively coordinating efforts to facilitate the return of other athletes, although the exact timeline for their return remains uncertain.

Great Britain had just concluded a triumphant World Championships in Hungary, where they achieved remarkable success by securing a total of 10 medals.

This achievement marks the highest medal count in their history at the World Championships.
