Black Princesses captain Afi Amenyeku thanks ‘supportive’ grandfather

Captain of the Black Princesses, Afi Amenyeku, expressed gratitude to her supportive grandfather, who has always encouraged her football journey.

As the goalkeeper for the Northern Ladies, Afi led the Princesses to victory against Nigeria with a 2-1 score in extra time, securing the gold medal at the 2023 African Games held in Ghana.

Sharing photos of herself and her grandfather proudly displaying her gold medal on social media, the images quickly gained viral attention.

Afi further elaborated on the special bond she shares with her grandfather, emphasising her determination to continue making him proud through her football career.

“When my grandfather learned that I played football, he told me he dreamed of seeing me succeed,” she told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“He also always asks for cars and other things before he passes away, so I always remember this.

“My grandfather is someone I will never forget, and I hope to continue making him proud of my football career.”
