Best and worst of Ghanaian players abroad

Good: Christian Atsu – On his return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Atsu had a decent game for Newcastle United but his performance could not prevent a 2-1 defeat to former side Chelsea in the English Premier League. Fans of The Magpies, though, were mad by his over-hit cross from a corner routine which ultimately turned out to be the last action of the game. He had 90 minutes of game time.

Bad: Jordan Ayew – Having scored in his first two games in 2019, the Ghanaian could not make it three out of three as his Crystal Palace side succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Good: Thomas Partey – The 25-year-old continues his impressive run of games for Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid. On Sunday, he won a penalty, which was ultimately converted for the match-winner, as the Rojiblancos beat Levante 1-0 in La Liga.

Bad: Emmanuel Boateng – While Partey strutted his stuff for Atletico, compatriot Emmanuel Boateng warned the bench for Levante. The 22-year-old, with one league goal to his name so far this season, continues his struggle for game time following The Frogs’ acquisition of Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid.

Too Bad: Raphael Dwamena – Boateng’s compatriot and club-mate Dwamena has bigger worries. For the umpteenth time, the 23-year-old, who joined Levante in the summer, could not even make the matchday squad. He has made only five league appearances so far, all substitute outings.
