Alexander Djiku, a Ghanaian international, has begun training with his new team, Fenerbache, in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
This Monday, the 26-year-old center defender officially joined the Turkish superpowers by agreeing to a three-year deal with an additional year’s option.
The Black Stars defender wasted little time in joining his teammate in preparation for the upcoming season.
Djiku’s contract was set to expire at the end of June, and Strasbourg, who recently hired Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira as their manager, had planned to extend it. Fenerbache made a more alluring offer once the player made the decision to consider alternative options.
Djiku made the decision to join Fenerbache despite being courted by Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga and Lille in the French Ligue 1 due to his admiration for the team’s vision.
Since joining the squad in 2019, Djiku has been an essential component of Strasbourg, serving as captain as they successfully escaped relegation the previous year.
Last summer, the defender was on the verge of moving from Strasbourg, but problems with agent commission prevented him from making the switch to Hoffenheim.
Djiku joins the famed Turkish club with the intention of helping them succeed in the future, and his move to Fenerbahce is a significant milestone in his career.
