Shut up; you are the reason “beggar” Ghana can’t easily pass anti-LGBTQ+ bill – Lydia Forson slams politicians

Renowned Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has lashed out at politicians, attributing Ghana’s struggle to pass an anti-LGBTQ+ bill to their dependence on foreign aid.

Forson contends that the nation’s inability to assert its sovereignty hampers the government’s capacity to make decisive choices on the matter.

Speaking out on social media, Forson emphasised the urgency for politicians to redirect their focus towards building a self-sufficient country.

She underscored the impact of Ghana’s reliance on foreign aid, asserting that it leaves politicians susceptible to external influence.

“This is the wake-up call to ALL your politicians to focus on building a self-sufficient country! Until you’re able to stop depending so much on foreign aid and begging all the time; the West will continue to dictate how you dance. So maybe SHUT UP and get to work!” Forson said in a passionate post.

The actress’s comments come amid ongoing debates and discussions within Ghanaian political circles about the proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

The bill has faced significant opposition both domestically and internationally, with critics arguing that it infringes upon human rights and promotes discrimination.

Forson’s words resonate with those who advocate for a more independent and sovereign Ghana, free from external pressures.

As the country grapples with socio-political challenges, her call for politicians to focus on internal development rather than relying on foreign aid has sparked a renewed conversation on the nation’s path towards self-sufficiency.

It remains to be seen how Forson’s outspoken stance will influence the political landscape and whether it will prompt a shift in priorities among Ghanaian leaders.
