She is my producer, not a thief – McBrown on lady in viral video ‘forcing’ to hold her bag

A video surfaced showing a woman trying to take Nana Ama McBrown’s handbag, which resulted in significant public outcry, with many labelling her a thief during Daddy Lumba’s recent birthday celebration.

In response to the controversy, McBrown expressed her disappointment over the way the woman was treated on social media.

Speaking on Onua Showtime, Nana Ama McBrown clarified that the individual in question is her producer, who was merely trying to help protect her bag as they navigated through the crowded venue.

McBrown explained that when her producer reached for the bag, she preferred to carry it herself because it matched her outfit.

Unfortunately, at that moment, security personnel and other guests shouted at the producer, which led to the misconception that she was attempting to steal the handbag.

“There’s a video trending online from when I arrived at the event. My producer reached for my handbag, and I refused. This led to the misunderstanding that she was trying to steal from me because people didn’t know she was my producer,” she said.

She added that her producer, Anita, called her in tears, unable to handle the online attacks and insults.

McBrown further said she reminded her producer that dealing with stardom isn’t easy and advised her to prepare for more challenges.

“She (Anita) called me crying on the phone. She could not handle the attacks and insults online. I asked her if she had now seen what I go through on the internet on a daily basis. I told her stardom isn’t easy and that she should brace herself up for more,” she stated.

Discussing the online environment, McBrown criticised Twitter, calling it a wild place.

She expressed her preference for Instagram and TikTok, stating that Twitter feels too uptight and its users are often unkind.
